Silver Howl hoodie with a wolf howling at the full moon – Arvenzo

Someone who would rather be in the woods than on a shopping street isn't always easy to surprise. Another gadget that ends up in a drawer? Better not. The best gift for a nature lover is something that goes outside with them, or something that brings the feeling of the outdoors inside.

Below you'll find 15 ideas, sorted by budget. All things that actually get used.

Gifts under €30

1. A pocket field guide

A small guide to birds, trees or mushrooms fits in any jacket pocket. For beginners, a guide with clear photos works better than a thick encyclopaedia.

2. A nature T-shirt

A shirt with a design that matches their favourite place: mountains, a wolf, the night sky or an owl. Our T-shirts are 100% cotton and cost €26.99. Tip: the Trail Rest Shirt with hiking boots is always a hit with hikers.

3. A thermos or water bottle

A hot cup of tea on a cold autumn walk is worth its weight in gold. Choose one that really stays sealed in a backpack.

4. A hiking map of a new region

A paper map of the High Fens, the Semois valley or the Campine invites them to try a new route. A small gift with a big plan behind it.

5. A nest box or insect hotel

For anyone with a garden or balcony. Building it yourself makes it even more fun, especially with kids.

Gifts between €30 and €60

6. A warm hoodie or sweatshirt

For cold mornings, long evenings by the campfire or simply relaxing on the sofa after a walk. Our sweatshirts (€36.99) and hoodies (€46.99) have a soft inside and designs inspired by nature. The Silver Howl Hoodie, a wolf howling at the moon, is a favourite.

7. A membership of a nature organisation

A year's membership of a nature conservation organisation is a gift for the recipient and for nature. It often comes with a magazine and guided walks.

8. A head torch with red light

Handy for camping, a night walk or stargazing. Red light doesn't ruin your night vision.

9. A good book about nature

About the return of the wolf, about trees or about the night sky. A book that makes you look at things differently.

10. A workshop or guided walk

A mushroom walk with a guide, a bird identification course or a night walk. Nature organisations and visitor centres organise them all year round.

Gifts over €60

11. Binoculars

The ultimate gift for anyone who wants to spot birds or wildlife. 8x magnification is ideal in the woods, 10x in open landscapes. We don't recommend more than 10x: you can't hold that steady by hand. A solid mid-range model is more than enough for a beginner.

12. A night at a bivouac site or hikers' cabin

Belgium has more than 50 official bivouac zones where you can pitch your tent for free. Combine it with a new sleeping bag or sleeping mat, and your gift becomes a real experience.

13. A weekend in the Ardennes

A cabin or B&B at the edge of the forest, with a few beautiful trails nearby. Fewer things, more memories.

14. A set: hoodie and shirt in the same design

For true fans of one animal or place. Many of our designs are available as a T-shirt, sweatshirt and hoodie, for example Star Map, a campfire under a starry sky.

15. A good backpack

A light daypack with comfortable shoulder straps and a rain cover. Something that lasts for years.

Frequently asked questions

What is an original gift for a nature lover?

An experience, such as a night at a bivouac site, a guided walk or a weekend in the Ardennes, often stays with people longer than an object. If you want something tangible, choose something that goes outdoors with them: binoculars, a thermos or clothing with a nature design.

What do you give a nature lover who already has everything?

A membership of a nature organisation, a course or a night in a new place. Gifts they won't already have.

Is clothing a good gift?

Yes, if you know their size. Check the size chart on the product page, or go one size up if in doubt: a roomy hoodie is never a problem.
